Ofelia Mendez

Ofelia's story is truly inspiring. Her lifelong passion for the ocean and her dedication to protecting it through her initiative, Ocean Soldiers, is a testament to her commitment to a cause that affects us all. It's remarkable how she has leveraged her business acumen from her experiences in aviation and automotive to champion environmental conservation. Stories like hers remind us that it's never too late to follow our passions and make a positive impact on the world.

I began diving when in 1972 I trained as a search and rescue diver in the Royal Australian Navy. It was a natural progression for me to expand my life long interest in photography to include taking photographs underwater. Over the years I have honed my tequnique as a photographer while at the same time observing changes in the underwater environment. It has become a passion of mine to try to educate people on the plight of our oceans and to this end I became co-founder, “along with Ofelia” of Ocean Soldiers.

Jean Carlo Blanco

Jean Blanco is a passionate marine conservationist committed to protecting ocean ecosystems. As the Executive Director of Reef2Reef Restoration Panama, he leads coral restoration efforts and encourages community involvement in marine conservation. He also advises on sustainable practices, such as sea cucumber farming, and has experience in underwater photography and marine safety.

Natasha Hinojosa

Specializing in ecology and evolutionary biology, she is a dedicated marine biologist focused on the human impacts on marine ecosystems and ocean health conservation. Her numerous publications, presentations, and awards highlight her commitment to the ocean.

Javiera
Mora

A Panamanian marine biologist with solid academic training, her certifications in scientific and advanced PADI diving highlight her ability to conduct complex marine studies. She has worked on coral reef fish feeding adaptations and shark monitoring in the Eastern Pacific.

Marino Abrego

A committed biologist focused on ocean conservation and the well-being of sea turtles and their ecosystems. Working at Panama's Ministry of Environment (MiAMBIENTE), his passion for sea turtles goes beyond science, deeply valuing their role in marine ecosystems.

Warrick Powrie

Warrick Shane Powrie is a Diving Safety Officer at the University of Waikato, with a background in marine studies and extensive experience in ocean conservation and diving safety. His dedication to protecting marine environments makes him a notable figure in marine science and environmental protection.

Natasha Cadavid

Natasha Cadavid García de Paredes gained marine conservation experience as a Field Research Assistant in Bali, studying macaque behavior and supporting local conservation efforts. Her work demonstrates a commitment to preserving natural environments.

Sofia Bistrain

Sofia Bistrain is a highly motivated leader and active community member, currently studying at Florida State University after graduating from Balboa Academy, where she earned the first-ever medal for the most community service hours in the school’s history. As President of Club RISE (2021-2024), she spearheaded numerous initiatives, raising funds to improve school facilities and supporting younger students through consistent tutoring sessions. Sofia is also the founder of TortuBanks.
